"What is this?" Lionel asked after taking a sniff of the vanilla.

"Smells really nice," Isaac complimented.

"It's called vanilla," I explained.

I took a few pods out of the box before carefully shutting it tight again.

"It has kind of a creamy and sweet taste, so I'm going to mix it with the pecan filling for extra flavor," I continued, while climbing back onto the counter to set the box back in the cabinet.

"Aaaand, I also have a favor to ask both of you..."

"Hmm? What is it?" Lionel asked.

I looked towards the alcohol cabinet.

I can use these vanilla beans to start making vanilla extract for the future, but I need them to keep quiet about me using alcohol.

"I need to use alcohol as an ingredient for something I'm planning to make in the future," I explained.

"Absolutely not," Isaac immediately replied.

"Yeah, you aren't touching alcohol until your deathbed," Lionel told me seriously.

"What!?" I yelled in shock. "I-I'm not going to drink it! I just need vodka to make vanilla extract!"

The two of them crossed their arms and stared at me.

"But when you use alcohol as an ingredient, aren't you going to eat it?" Isaac questioned me. "That's the same as drinking it."

"I heard from the knights that vodka is very strong. Why would you need something like that as an ingredient?" Lionel asked.

I sighed and began to explain. "When cooking with vanilla extract I'm not going to use enough to get drunk! And besides, when you cook alcohol, the alcohol disappears and all you are left with is the flavor. There is nothing to get drunk off of, trust me!"

Isaac and Lionel looked at each other, before Lionel replied, "I'll ask my teacher first. But for now, you are definitely NOT allowed to touch the alcohol at all."

He then stood directly in front of the cabinet, glaring at me with his arms crossed.

Jeez, I guess I can sort of understand their reaction. A drunk child is not something I'd want to deal with either...

Instead of pushing them any further, I scraped out some vanilla beans and carefully wrapped the leftover pods in a cloth to store them for later.

I cracked a few eggs and mixed everything together, then added in most of the pecans to the filling before pouring it into the pie pan. The top of the pie was decorated with the leftover pecans, then pushed into the oven.

In the background, Isaac continued to read aloud the book I had brought, cringing in disgust whenever he read something he didn't like.

Soon, the sweet aroma of the pie started to fill the room and I could tell Isaac was getting antsy.

I took out a piece of paper, reminded by the smell to write down the recipe for the pie for any future reference.

"What are you writing?" Isaac asked, pausing from reading the book.

"Chef Cooke asked me to write down my recipes. I'm writing down this pecan pie recipe for him right now."

"I see..." he nodded, staring into the oven longingly before returning to the book.
