Saturday

I was in my room lying down on my bed I had just finished reading the Purple Hibiscus book that I borrowed from Nenye.

I was just about to return it to her when someone knocked on my door. The person didn't wait for an answer. The door opened slightly and Nenye poked her head through.

"Hey." She said and opened the door so she could come in fully.

I sat up on my bed and stretched out my hand with the book.

"I've finished reading it, thanks," I said.

She looked at my hand then at me, then sat down on my bed and looked me squarely in the eye.

"Okay, what did I do?"

"You didn't do anything," I said.

Even though I'd already decided to let my anger with her go, I was surprised that she actually came here to talk to me.

I might have misjudged her by thinking she was incapable of realizing when she has done something wrong.

"Are you sure? You've been acting really weird since what happened on Friday."

I sighed and said, "That's because I was angry that you guys lied to me."

"Really?" She said in surprise.

I nodded before saying, "Don't worry, I'm not angry anymore."

For a second she didn't say anything. She just kept staring at me.

"... I'm sorry that we hid it from you." She finally said.

I paused for a bit until the apology finally registered in my brain.

Did Nenye just apologize to me?

"No seriously Nenye, I'm not angry anymore."

I was beginning to feel a bit worried that something was wrong.

"I know you're not angry anymore...but I'm still sorry."

"...I know but-"

"For Christ sake, Zaram just accept my apology!" She snapped.

I stared at her in surprise then smiled.

This is the Nenye I know and she was definitely sorry.

"Okay, I accept."

Her face broke out in a smile too.

"You should see yourself when you're angry, it's scary."

I shook my head to disagree with her.

"You're the one that gets scary when angry."

"Yeah but that's because I'm naturally Savage, you on the other hand..."

I laughed and shook my head at her. She looked at the book that I still had in my hand.

"Did you like the book?" She asked as I handed it to her.

"Yeah, it was a good read." I smiled and looked at the book

"Why did you all of a sudden want to read it? I've had the book for a while now and you haven't asked for it before now."

"Uh..." I trailed off thinking whether it would be a good idea to tell her that I borrowed the book because I saw it in Chidindu's room.

"Uh, what?" She asked.

I then shook my head and said,

"No reason."

She smirked at me.
