❝ The image of the dead, dead ends in my mind ❞

Sewer water dripped from the ceiling as Junpei spoke up. "I wonder if the first person to say 'The opposite of affection is indifference,' is rotting in hell they should be. There's no way hating people is better than being indifferent toward them. "The opposite of affection is hatred. Complicating simple answers for different meanings is such a Japanese thing to do."

Mahito listened to his words before commenting. "The man who coined that phrase wasn't Japanese, though."

"I'm talking about the mistaken translation. Some foreigners originally spoke it. 'The opposite of affection is indifference,' right? There are various definitions of 'love,' so 'indifference' works as an antonym there. But we generally don't use the word 'love' very much. That's why in this country, it got changed to 'affection' at some point. It spread whether or not the opposing definitions of 'affection' and 'indifference' still held", Junpei looked over at Mahito, who began to walk off before he walked after him.

"Everyone likes a little wordplay. After all, humans can't live without making up excuses", Mahito responded before the two stopped. Right around the corner, an experiment made by Mahito came into view.

"Wha's this?" Junpei looked up at the experiment.

"An experiment to see how big a human can get. On that one, I tried to see how small one can get", Mahito answered, and Junpei looked at the object in his hand before realizing it was a human before. "This is a human?"

"Aren't you bothered by corpses, Junpei?" Mahito asked the curse user who didn't seem to be too sure.

"I don't know. If this was my mother, I might lose control and end up hating you. But I know how repulsive people can be. That's why I don't expect anything from anyone. Someone else's death means nothing to me. Indifference is what humans should strive for", Junpei looked his hand over while speaking to Mahito, who smiled a bit.
