          start talking about the store where we got them at and all of a sudden she asks if we’re gay and I say yes and then she starts going on about how she’s been wanting a “GBF” for a long time

Unpopular opinion but Wattpad has been on its  downfall for years and the dms removal just sealed its fate. 2021 and MAYBE early 2022 was the tail end of the good years 
          
          The early 2010s were their glory years, then Covid hit which introduced it to a lot of young teens and preteens. The Covid years lasted for a while but then the young teens and preteens started growing up and decided that the old Wattpad is now cringe. Now that everything is cringe and unoriginal there isn’t much to do. The only thing that’s left is roleplay or chatting with friends, and removing dms severely affected both cases, causing a massive loss in members
          
          From 2023 to now WP has also gained many Gen alpha members. Hence, resulting in many children exposed to sexualized content. Then they think it’s okay to write, dragging on the cycle
