February fourteen

The wooden clock struck midnight, decreasing Lily's sobs. Leah perceived it only had been a day since they brought them into the forsaken cabin, and it felt like years had passed. Seeing is believing, Leah thought as she watched her friend wiping tears away from her eyes. The man grabbed Lily's hair, forcing her to stand up.

"Stop crying. And go clean the girl," Tiny said through, his gritted teeth pointing to the bathtub.

His demeanor seemed different as his face appeared paler, and his breathing increased. Tiny's blue shirt seemed disheveled and unevenly tucked into dark jeans.

Lily's eyes widened. "What?" Her voice trembled.

"You heard me." He pushed Lily further to the bathroom. "Wash her."

"Why would I do that?" She knitted her eyebrows, tucking her loose hair behind her ears.

"I can make your life easier." He caressed Lily's cheek, making her wince. "Or worse." Tiny lifted his eyebrow. "I understand she is your friend, but you can't do anything for her now. Help us and we will reward you."

"Do it," Leah said, making Lily slightly jump. "He is right. You can't help me, just do what he says."

With a slight nod, Lily sighed and moved to the bathtub. Tiny fended against the doorway, intertwining his hands on his chest. Lily took the showerhead and turned on the warm water. She started with Leah's brown hair and slowly worked toward the legs. Tiny watched Lily occasionally helping with Leah's body as it needed the readjustments.

Slowly, the dead body lost flexibility as it began to stiffen and felt cold to Lily's touch. Diesel appeared in the doorway as Tiny dragged the last puff of his cigarette. The big guy held a white sheet in his hands. Lily sat on the edge of the bathtub, water dripping from her soaked t-shirt.

"We will hide her somewhere in the woods, it's winter, so there are not many people around," Diesel spoke while unfolding the cloth. "And animals like their meat." He grinned.

Lily gulped, hearing the man talk. Tiny dropped the stub of a cigarette into a sink and the men transferred Leah's body to the sheet. Both girls watched as men wheezed while lifting Leah from the bathtub. The men departed carrying Leah's body, leaving Lily alone.

"No, it's your chance," Leah said.

"What?" Lily lifted her head, looking at Leah.

"Run, honey!" Leah motioned to the open bathroom doorway.

Lily's eyes widened as she boosted herself from the bathtub ridge. The place seemed silent, just an old clock ticking monotonously. She scanned the living room, not noticing anything useful, as she stepped toward the outside door.

"Find some clothes, you are going to need them." Leah motioned to the armchair.

Lily looked down. The clothes she wore were wet from the waist down, and the bottom of the shirt clung to her naked legs. Droplets of water dripped as she walked to the armchair. She dug through a pile of clothes, finding her black jeans and the gray sweater she wore before men took away her things.

"Good, you found something to wear," the manly voice forced Lily to snap her head toward the cabin doorway. "Get dressed, you are coming with us," Tiny said, scratching brown stubbles on his chin.

Lily tottered, looking at Leah with tears in her green eyes. Diesel walked into the cabin with a shovel in his heavy fingers.

"Hurry," Diesel said, putting his coat on.

"I need to pee," Lily said.

"Go and get dressed." Tiny lifted his chin to the bathroom door.

Lily paced to the bathroom. She put on her clothes and stepped into the bathtub, lifting her hands to the small window near the ceiling.
