"This sounds like a great plan, Mr Anderson. We're excited about working with you on this project moving forward" Mr Smith said, a satisfied smile bracing his face.I gave a small nod and held his hand in a firm handshake, reinforcing the words he said.
For someone who'd been in this business for more than thirty years, he made fundamental mistakes in the way he was carrying himself.
For one, he was clearly carrying his emotions on his sleeve even though he was here for a round of negotiation with me.
Negotiation is a strategic conflict, one wrong move and the balls out of your court before you know it.
From the very start, I've worked with a simple understanding when it comes to my business.
Give respect to take respect.
One wrong decision made by me affects the life of all the employees who work for me, if I expect the best from them then I should be able to repay back just the same, it's a give and takes relationship which works two ways.
"I'll see you next week, Mr Anderson. Once again, I thank you for investing in this project. The road map will be sent to you by the end of next week with all the other additional details. Goodbye." Mr Smith continued and got up, leaving the room.
I sighed and leaned back on the chair, closing my eyes and let the darkness take over.
Things had been very exhausting recently, coping with seven big projects altogether was very difficult, add to that a merger and things had started going down real quick.
Not for the business, for me.
I've always been a little bit of a workaholic, but with my long-time personal assistant retiring and everything else on the plate, my health was taking a toll.
Settling my mind back, I opened my eyes and scanned my table before calling my Personal Assistant, ordering a coffee for myself, a strong one.
Black with no sugar.
The merger that I've been working on for the last few months was finalised yesterday, and the worst wasn't even over yet.
Remodelling a company from top to down is not an option easy task especially when your staff has already worked itself to the brink just to get their hands on this opportunity.
Since summer break has also rolled around, I had been planning on giving the staff an off well for some time now owing to the increased workload on them and yet not complaining.
This project was important, very important.
Dain industries were after all on their way to becoming one the best managerial sectors once again; with one-of-a-kind management and the best onboard staff.
